Elemental Personas

Some believe that the elements we experience on a daily basis not only sustain life on Earth but also make a person who they are. The different elemental properties have been associated with behavioral attributes. Each person is made of traits from all the elements but one element is more dominant than the rest. I took portraits of women embodying the element that most defines them.

Earth symbolizes groundness, dependability, intuition and wisdom. Air symbolizes intelligence, knowledge, harmony, and imagination. Water symbolizes fluidity, strength, devotion, and unconditional love. Fire symbolizes creativity, passion, courage and dynamism. Ice bridges the gap between all the other elements because it is solid, strong, grounding and can be built upon. 

Like earth, know balance and nurture. Like air, fly free and breathe. Like water, flow peacefully and cleanse. Like fire, feel awakened and ignite. Like ice, keep cool and be strong. Through this series of portraits, I seek to celebrate the inherent complexity within each individual. Just as the elements intertwine to shape our world, these women reflect the diverse facets of human nature, inviting viewers to contemplate their own elemental resonance within this tapestry of personalities.
